· Over 330,000 vehicles were stolen in England and Wales
in 2001/02*
· 53% of all stolen vehicles are taken with the owner's keys*
· Nearly half of all stolen vehicles never recovered*
If you're the driver of a high-value vehicle, or if you've ever had a car stolen, protecting your vehicle from theft is no doubt a high priority. However, with over half of vehicle's stolen using the keys*, security measures such as alarms, immobilisers and deadlocks are easily overcome; even sophisticated tracking devices are rendered useless when they rely on the car being reported stolen or moved without the keys being used.
For victims of such thefts, recovering the car and its contents quickly before criminals have the chance to crash, damage or strip it will be of paramount importance. Unrecovered stolen vehicles cost our insurers over £3 billion a year* and many thieves are now targeting Britain's drivers whilst abroad, or are taking stolen cars out of the country.
The new vehicle tracking system from NavTrak uses GPS satellite technology to constantly monitor exactly where a vehicle is and has two unique features to combat car thieves. Automatic Driver Recognition (ADR) can instantly detect a theft even if the thief has the keys and NavTrak's stolen vehicle recovery service has now been extended to provide cover in all European countries through a pioneering partnership with EUROWATCH.
NavTrak's ADR technology works by the driver carrying a small, discreet ADR card, which fits easily into a wallet. If the vehicle is moved without the ADR card present, a silent alert is sent to NavTrak's control centre, which immediately pinpoints the car's location and contacts the owner to confirm whether or not the vehicle is moving illegally. Should this be the case, NavTrak continues to track the stolen vehicle, to aid a quick recovery through established procedures with Britain's police forces.
NavTrak also functions throughout mainland Europe, so should the car be stolen abroad, or taken to the continent, it can still be located. NavTrak works in conjunction with EUROWATCH, which provides 24-hour access to police across Europe, transferring real-time stolen vehicle tracking data cross-border to the authorities and then working with the local forces to recover the vehicle.
Giles Harridge, managing director of NavTrak says, "Motorists are demanding ways of quickly locating and recovering their car should they fall victim to vehicle theft. The sooner the vehicle can be recovered, the less opportunity criminals have to damage it, strip it, or take its contents. NavTrak customers benefit from the exclusive combination of theft detection, police liaison and vehicle recovery at home and abroad through NavTrak's ADR technology and the support of EUROWATCH."
The NavTrak vehicle tracking system is recognised by the Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre as Thatcham Q Listed. This can often lead to substantial savings on annual insurance premiums; owners of certain high-value and performance cars may find that fitting a tracking device to their vehicle is a pre-requisite for insurance cover. For drivers of more than one vehicle, an ADR card can be programmed to work across a number of vehicles, whilst vehicles with more than one driver can be programmed to accept several ADR cards.
