MAGIC, Ford's free telephone information service for disabled and mature drivers
(0800 240 241), today launches a new campaign to urge disabled motorists to
claim a discount from the Central London congestion charge.
The campaign is aimed at encouraging disabled drivers to register for a 100% discount from the congestion charge, well before it comes into effect on 17 February 2003. Orange/Blue badge holders, of which there are over 216,000 in London, won't have to pay anything, as long as their details are pre-registered on/or before 24 December 2002. MAGIC is helping Transport for London to gather this data.
Anyone who registers after this date will have to make a one-off registration payment of £10, which will also entitle them to travel uncharged in the charging zone. MAGIC will also be writing to thousands of London-based disabled drivers to inform them of the procedure to claim their 100% discount from the congestion charge.
Peter Kemp, Chairman, National Forum of Wheelchair User Groups has welcomed
the campaign: "If you're disabled and drive a car in the capital or rely
on someone else who does, it is important that you know how the Central London
congestion charge will affect you."
