LED BREAKTHROUGH

A breakthrough in lighting for car headlamps has been developed by light specialist Lumileds with the launch of the Luxeon 5-watt LED. A revolution in LED lighting, the new Luxeon brings the energy efficiency, long-life and flexibility of LEDs to the motor industry, giving them a new level of LED brightness and power that can rival conventional headlamp lighting.

Previously used for car signal and rear lights, the new Luxeon 5-watt LED has been used for the first time in car headlamps in the concept vehicle Fioravanti Yak, unveiled at this year's Geneva Motor show.

The ground-breaking use of LED's for headlamps has generated growing interest from the motor industry and Lumileds is now talking with industry players about the use of LEDs in headlamps in the near future. Luxeon LEDs provide the proven benefits of a solid-state light source, including energy efficiency, space savings and life-of-vehicle operation.

White Luxeon LEDs from Lumileds are used to deliver the powerful light output needed for forward lighting in the Fioravanti Yak concept vehicle.
