* Enlarged fuel tank for increased range
* Changes to specification for all versions
* New Sport model now available
The world's most technically advanced compact supermini, the aluminium-bodied
Audi A2, is available from this month with a host of new specification enhancements
and a new Sport upgrade package. The 2002 model year A2 line-up also benefits
from a larger fuel tank, potentially reducing the number of annual fuel stops
by up to 10 per year*, according to Audi calculations.
The highly aerodynamic, four or five-seat A2 is now fitted with a 42-litre fuel
tank (up from 34 litres), giving an increase in range between fuel stops of
over 20 per cent, which equates to 83 miles for the 1.4 petrol models and 116
miles for the 1.4 TDI versions (based on the combined fuel consumption figure).
The optimum aerodynamics of the 0.28 Cd A2 are now helped by the single windscreen
wiper, which features an advanced new streamlined blade design giving increased
screen clearing performance and reduced wind noise.
Inside, SE versions of the A2 gain an upgraded Concert radio with front-loading
single CD player, and all models benefit from an enhanced front and rear active
speaker system for even richer sound output.
In addition, the latest models are now fitted with a space-saver spare wheel
as standard equipment, replacing the sealant canister originally provided at
launch. A rear luggage compartment cover for added security is now also added
as standard.
It is now possible to order an A2 SE without electronic climate control, as
this feature becomes an optional extra throughout the range. Revised prices
for the six A2 models in the UK range now start from £13,145 on the road.
New Sport versions introduced
Available allied to both petrol and TDI engines, the new Sport specification
transforms the look of the A2, and sharpens its already much praised handling
even further.
The A2 Sport is lowered by sports suspension tuned by Audi bespoke vehicle subsidiary
quattro GmbH, and rides on 17-inch, nine-spoke alloy wheels with
205/40 ZR 17 tyres, for maximum visual impact.
The more sporting theme is continued in the cabin by front sports seats with
electric lumbar support, upholstered in Jacquard Satin fabric, plus a three-spoke,
leather-rimmed steering wheel and leather trimming for the hand brake cover
and gear lever gaiter. A Driver's Information System (DIS), giving useful information
on fuel consumption and potential driving range, is also part of the package.
The Sport specification adds £1,000 to the price of standard 1.4 and 1.4
TDI models, taking the OTR price of the A2 1.4 Sport to £14,145 and the
1.4 TDI Sport to £15,125.
Built around the aluminium Audi Space Frame (ASF), the A2 range is currently
powered by 1.4-litre, four-cylinder petrol and 1.4-litre, three-cylinder TDI
engines, both with a 75bhp output and both offering exceptional fuel economy.
