PEUGEOT’S NEW BOXER PACKS A STYLISH PUNCH

Peugeot’s new Boxer van is a stylish, spacious, comfortable and generously equipped load lugger. It is available with a range of body styles and engine options that make it suitable for a wide number of applications and is specified with a host of options more usually found on executive cars than light commercial vehicles.

More style, more practicality

The new Boxer’s sleek styling makes it stand out from the crowd and offers practical as well as aesthetic advantages over the previous Boxer design. The large new smooth-lensed headlamps provide 54% more light for significantly improved visibility, while the body sides now feature protective plastic mouldings which are easy to replace in the event of damage.

The new rear bumper doubles as a non-slip step, and all doors are equipped with new handles which are equally easy to open with either the left or right hand – an invaluable innovation for those trying to open the door while also carrying a load.

Greater comfort and convenience

Changes to the Boxer cabin greatly improve life on-board. Interior noise has been much reduced through the use of sound-absorbing floor covering and partitions, while the new adjustable seats boast arm-rests and height-adjustable headrests. The new Boxer is the first vehicle in its class with an adjustable steering column, for further driving comfort.

The redesigned dashboard features an electronic instrument cluster together with a number of storage compartments, a 12-volt socket, mobile phone holder, lockable glove box and removable clipboard for documents. There is further generous storage in the door panels, plus controls for the electric windows and electric de-icing rear-view mirrors.

A host of engine and body options

The new Boxer is offered with a 110bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine or a choice of three HDi turbo-diesel power units – an 85bhp 2.0-litre, a 100bhp 2.2-litre or a potent 127bhp 2.8-litre engine.

All Boxer vans are available with a new five-speed manual gearbox which contributes to the noise reduction in the cabin and offers drivers a ‘car-like’ driving experience.

As always, the versatile Boxer is available in a wide range of body versions including panel van, window van and Chassis Cab. Four different wheelbases and three different heights can carry payloads ranging from 900kg to in excess of 1700kg. The maximum payload is 1755kg for the 350 lwb 2.2 HDi Chassis Cab.

Safety and security

The new wrap-around front bumpers provide better protection in the event of a frontal impact, and all Boxers are offered with ABS and equipped with automatic fuel pump cut-off for extra safety if the vehicle suffers a violent impact. Driver’s airbag is optional on certain models, as is passenger airbag and side airbags. An electronic immobiliser system is standard on all models.

ASR traction control will be available as an option on 2.8 HDi models.

Class-leading sophistication

A wide range of sophisticated optional equipment puts the new Peugeot Boxer at the front of its class: Standard equipment on all models except the 250 swb 2.0 HDi base model include:

Radio/single disc CD
Electric windows and mirrors
Central door locking
And ‘first in class’ innovations include the rear proximity detector – ‘park-assist’ – and the telematics system. Already seen on the Peugeot 607, the park-assist feature can be invaluable when reversing in poor visibility, while the four-level telematics system allows for the installation of satellite navigation.

Climate control is available for either the cab only or the cab and rear compartment, while the Boxer can also be fitted with a temperature-controlled compartment to keep drinks hot or cold.

The new Peugeot Boxer will be on sale in the UK from April 2002. Prices will be announced at a later date.
